The technology is nearly ready, but it’s still going to take a strong psychological push to get the world to massively switch from gasoline to electrically powered vehicles without waiting until today’s 800 to 900 million cars and trucks have to be replaced, which won’t be for another 10 to 20 years.

This could be the push the world needs. In a speech last week, Israel’s President Shimon Peres hailed the electric vehicle as a potent weapon against terrorism, citing petro-power Iran’s support for Hezbollah and other groups. www.alertnet.org

Former CIA director James Woolsey has been preaching the same thing for years, with only limited success. But now with Israel’s anti-terror spin on electric vehicles, the era of electrified transportation may have just pulled into view.

Until tomorrow.
