China has a new government subsidy program that it hopes will ratchet up the number of energy-efficient light bulbs the country uses. www.planetark.com

Plans are for 50 million incandescent bulbs to be replaced in just the first stage of the plan.

“This is the first time China has used financial subsidies to support such wide consumption of energy-saving products and it is an innovative use of financial subsidies,” the country’s financial ministry said.
