The chairman of Coal India Ltd. has warned that India’s coal reserves may run out by 2040.

Before then, Partha S. Bhattacharyya reportedly said, the country will need to increase its coal mining by 6 % to 7% per year, which will require new technologies and greater environmental degradation.

No wonder India has (finally) started pushing for more solar and wind. But apparently it needs to push a lot harder.
